Where the work begins

Marika Warner divides her working time between Scotiabank Arena and MLSE LaunchPad, a downtown Toronto facility that uses sport to support young people facing barriers. As MLSE's director of research and insights, she oversees studies and program evaluation, including the provincial Change the Game project.

Her route there began in physiotherapy. Working with stroke and brain-injury patients at Toronto Rehab prompted her to study aerobic exercise and mood at U of T's Rehabilitation Sciences Institute. Later, designing a physiotherapy program at Regent Park Community Health Centre shifted her attention toward access and population health. Those experiences informed her move into sport and community programming.
