Kelly Anderson becomes chair of epidemiology and biostatistics at Schulich
The Canada Research Chair in Public Mental Health Research starts a five-year term on October 1, succeeding Dr. Saverio Stranges, who served two terms.
Kelly Anderson, PhD, has been appointed chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry for a term running from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2031. She is a Canada Research Chair in Public Mental Health Research, an associate professor and the department’s graduate chair.
Anderson earned her PhD in epidemiology at McGill University and did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. Her work looks at the risk, course and outcome of mental illness across population groups, with a focus on adolescents and young adults, first-episode psychosis and early intervention services. She uses population-based health administrative data to inform policy, including provincial standards of care for early psychosis programs.
She succeeds Dr. Saverio Stranges, who held the chair for two five-year terms from 2016. Anderson is a Western Faculty Scholar for 2025 to 2027 and received an Early Researcher Award from Ontario in 2018.
