Brooke Macdonald fought back from a knee injury to try out for Mustangs lacrosse
The first-year kinesiology student and National Indigenous Scholarship recipient was cleared to play two days before training camp, after more than a year out.
Brooke Macdonald was medically cleared to play lacrosse just two days before training camp, after reconstructive knee surgery and 12 months of physiotherapy. A first-year kinesiology student and National Indigenous Scholarship recipient, she tried out for the Mustangs women’s lacrosse team in late August, with 36 others competing for 20 roster spots.
She did not make the final roster and plans to keep playing recreationally while she trains for the next opportunity. Macdonald has played competitive lacrosse for nine years, won three provincial championships with Six Nations youth teams and played two seasons internationally with the Haudenosaunee Nationals. She kept a 94 per cent average in high school.
Her scholarship rewards creative thinking and contributions to Indigenous communities, and she has organized lacrosse games to support campaigns such as Every Child Matters. She hopes to work in sports medicine.
