Lisa Ko, a novelist from New York, is Western’s 2026-27 writer-in-residence. Her novels include The Leavers, winner of the 2017 PEN/Bellwether Prize and a National Book Award finalist, and Memory Piece, named one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of summer 2024.

She holds a master of fine arts in creative writing and a master of library and information science, and has taught at the City University of New York and the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. Her approach is non-prescriptive: she looks at how each writer’s life stage, experience and curiosity shape a story.

Western has had a writer-in-residence since 1972, one of the longest-running programs of its kind in Canada, run with the London Public Library. Ko will arrange public workshops at Western and the Central Library branch, and appointments with her are open to Western and London community members on Tuesdays through the fall and winter terms. The source does not list workshop dates.
