The Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo announced its 2026 alumni award recipients on September 22. Douglas Jones (BES ’93) and Reiko Omoto (PhD ’13) received Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards. Jo Fitzgibbons (MES ’19) and Kate Linden (PhD ’18) received Recent Alumni Inspiration Awards.

Adam Clark (BAS ’06, MArch ’09), an urban designer with the City of Kitchener, and KEEN Footwear received Friend of the Faculty Impact Awards. Jones is principal of Limehouse Public School, which has held EcoSchools Platinum certification for five consecutive years. Omoto studies how global sustainability approaches can learn from local knowledge in Japan, Southeast Asia and the United States.

Fitzgibbons plans and researches for the City of Vancouver, and Linden teaches at Cape Breton University. The awards were established in 2008, and this year’s six recipients join more than 40 previous honourees.

Upcoming: the faculty will honour the recipients on November 17 at the Evergreen Awards banquet in Federation Hall. Nominations for future awards are accepted year-round.
