What replaces an old order?

Manjari Chatterjee Miller, the inaugural Munk Chair in Global India, has launched the Global Reordering Initiative with partners in Singapore and Copenhagen. Its first public event, on Canada, India and middle power diplomacy, was held on October 2. Students build its website.

Manjari Chatterjee Miller is a Professor of International Relations and the inaugural Munk Chair in Global India at the Munk School. She has created the Global Reordering Initiative, a research and convening platform that asks what happens when an old international order begins to break down before a new one has taken shape.

The initiative is a collaboration with Professor Selina Ho of the National University of Singapore and Professor Anders Wivel of the University of Copenhagen. It looks at fragmentation of established institutions and at the construction of new coalitions and standards, through case studies, working papers, public events and workshops.

Its first public event, held on Oct. 2 with the Asia Institute and the Harney Program, featured Professors T.V. Paul of McGill University and Rohan Mukherjee of the London School of Economics. Students can contribute work, and the initiative’s website is student-built.

Until the next issue

The class keeps arriving.

One hundred and thirteen stories end this issue, but the university doesn't pause between them. A new orientation week is already being planned; a lab somewhere on campus is already running the next experiment. Alumni Digest will be there in October for the next one.
