A Hart House family habit

Anna Hurnanen joined Hart House because of its theatre, then stayed for the sports, the crafts and a three-month exchange in Finland. Her uncle, a 1990s alum, was a super fan first. She now works as a Hart House student ambassador and leads workshops.

Anna Hurnanen is an Innis College student majoring in German Studies. Her uncle, a University of Toronto alum who graduated in the 1990s, has long been a fan of Hart House, and he passed the habit to her in her first weeks on campus.

She came for the theatre. She went on a tour, saw backstage, signed up for a volunteer newsletter, and later worked as a production assistant on The Gray, A Wilde Musical in Concert. She bought a ticket for the next night, too.

A meeting at the 519 Sports Day led to a job as a Hart House student ambassador. She also spent three months in Finland on the Hart House Finnish Exchange, helping a neighbourhood group run an open water swimming program, and entered the indoor triathlon beside two of her uncles.

Until the next issue

The class keeps arriving.

One hundred and thirteen stories end this issue, but the university doesn't pause between them. A new orientation week is already being planned; a lab somewhere on campus is already running the next experiment. Alumni Digest will be there in October for the next one.
