Women’s hockey aims to bounce back

After a quarter-final exit, Varsity Blues women’s hockey opens the season with coach Vicky Sunohara in her 16th year, scorer Abby Whitworth back after leading the OUA with 20 goals, and six recruits, including Hungarian forward Berta Mozolai.

The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team enters 2026-2027 hoping to bounce back from an earlier-than-usual playoff exit. Last season Toronto finished 11-9-6, entered the OUA playoffs as the third seed in the East, and lost a best-of-three quarter-final series to Ottawa in a deciding third game.

Head coach Vicky Sunohara returns for her 16th season, with three OUA titles and two recent U SPORTS medals. Abby Whitworth finished first in the OUA with 20 goals and earned OUA first-team all-star and U SPORTS second-team All-Canadian honours. Ashley Delahey led the team with 16 assists, and goalie Lyla McKinnon posted a .926 save percentage.

Six recruits join: forwards Berta Mozolai and Abby Pak, and defenders Miwa Carter, Abby Dingwell, Ashley Minor and Abby Carr. Mozolai brings international experience from Hungary.

Until the next issue

The class keeps arriving.

One hundred and thirteen stories end this issue, but the university doesn't pause between them. A new orientation week is already being planned; a lab somewhere on campus is already running the next experiment. Alumni Digest will be there in October for the next one.
