Two generations of Rotman

Peter Philp left an eight-year stint in sales to join the first cohort of Rotman’s new one-year MBA, following his father Brock Philp (MBA ’98), a recently retired software chief executive. Rotman invited the two to the school to compare notes on the program.

After eight years in sales, Peter Philp (1YMBA ’27) joined the first cohort of Rotman’s new one-year MBA program. His father, Brock Philp (MBA ’98), had recently celebrated his retirement.

Brock most recently served as CEO and chair of Newforma, and before that spent a decade leading Doc-it Software as president and CEO. Rotman asked the pair to sit down together and talk about their experiences of the program, a conversation published as an edited interview.

Brock told his son that he was sponsored by his company and wanted to be a general manager by 35. He named Joe D’Cruz, the program director and his strategy professor, as the person who changed his life.

Until the next issue

The class keeps arriving.

One hundred and thirteen stories end this issue, but the university doesn't pause between them. A new orientation week is already being planned; a lab somewhere on campus is already running the next experiment. Alumni Digest will be there in October for the next one.
