Kristen Tsai’s children’s book grows out of a placement in Madagascar, where close observation became a way of understanding a place without flattening it into a lesson.

The alumni connection is beautifully direct: a university experience becomes a cultural object that can travel to readers who have never been there. Curiosity changes shape, but it does not have to disappear.
